Monari Clothing: 6 New Knitwear Pieces

Monari Cappuccino Pink Jumper at Shirley Allum Boutique

New Monari clothing has just landed on our rails in Shaftesbury, and this delivery is almost all knitwear. Six pieces caught our eye enough to buy. A chunky pink jumper. A leopard print jacket that does the work of a whole outfit on its own.

Monari is German, run by the family who started it. It has always sat a little apart from what everyone else stocks, which is exactly why we buy it.

At a glance

  • Six new Monari pieces, in stock now in sizes 8 to 16
  • Mostly knitwear: two jumpers, a gilet, a vest and one printed jacket
  • Prices run from £85 to £155
  • Cappuccino pink runs through three of the six
  • Everything here is built to layer, not to wear as a single statement piece

What is new in this delivery

This is the first Monari clothing delivery of the season, and it leans heavily on knitwear. Rib knits, jacquard patterns and one faux fur gilet, in a palette built around a soft dusty pink the brand calls cappuccino.

Nothing in this drop is loud. It is the kind of knitwear you reach for without thinking, then get asked about anyway.

The six pieces, one by one

  • Cappuccino pink fisherman-rib jumper. A chunky knit with real texture, cut in a relaxed boxy shape that layers over a shirt or under a coat. £95.
  • Black coffee jacquard jumper. An abstract animal print worked into the knit rather than printed on top, fitted through the body with a balloon sleeve. £125.
  • Cappuccino pink faux fur gilet. Built to sit over a jumper, with a funnel collar and drawstring pulls. Zips on and off in seconds. £125.
  • Antique white button-neck jumper. A fine, close knit with a small button placket at the neck, slim enough to wear under a jacket. £85.
  • Cappuccino pink ribbed vest. Boxy and cropped, made for layering over a long-sleeve top rather than wearing alone. £85.
  • Hazel leopard print jacket. A cotton-twill trucker shape worked head to toe in a hazel and cream print, with chest patch pockets. £155.

All six are in the shop now, and online at Monari.

How to wear them

Start simple. Straight-leg jeans and boots under any of the three cappuccino pieces, and the outfit is already finished.

The gilet is the one to reach for first if you are new to layering. Zip it over the antique white jumper on a cold morning, then take it off indoors. You still have a complete outfit underneath.

The jacquard jumper and the leopard jacket both carry enough pattern to lead an outfit alone. Keep everything else plain: denim and a white tee under the jacket, dark trousers under the jumper. Let the piece do the talking.

Why we buy Monari

Renate and Bernhard Bosch started Monari in 1986, after a summer in Tuscany they wanted to bottle into a label. Nearly forty years on, their family still runs it. That Italian warmth still shows up in the colour and shine, even though the brand is designed in Germany.

We buy against brands that are everywhere on the high street, and Monari has never been one of those. It is quality, and it is something different, which is exactly what we look for on every buying trip.

Full details on sizing and fit are on each product page. The whole current range sits together in Monari clothing, alongside the rest of our women's knitwear.

Frequently asked questions

Where can I buy Monari clothing in the UK?

We stock Monari at Shirley Allum in Shaftesbury, Dorset, both in the shop and online with tracked UK delivery. We are one of a small number of UK stockists carrying the current season in any depth. It is worth calling ahead if you want a specific size or colour before making the trip.

What sizes does Monari run?

This delivery runs from a UK 8 to a UK 16, though it varies piece by piece. Stock in each size is limited on a new drop like this one, so if you are between sizes, come in and we will help you check the fit against something similar already on the rails.

Is Monari a good quality brand?

Yes. Monari works with long-standing producers across Europe, Turkey and North Africa to keep quality consistent season to season. It shows in the knitwear especially, real rib and jacquard construction rather than a thin printed surface, and it sits toward the top of what we stock for everyday knitwear.

What does Monari clothing cost?

This delivery runs from £85 for the fine knit jumper and the ribbed vest up to £155 for the leopard print jacket. The two mid-weight jumpers and the gilet sit at £95 and £125. It is priced above the high street, in line with the quality of the knit.

Can I try Monari on in the shop?

Yes, and we would rather you did. Knitwear wears differently on a body than it does on a hanger, especially anything with a jacquard pattern or a fitted sleeve. We are at 30 High Street in Shaftesbury, open Monday to Saturday, and there is no need to book.
