Plus Size Bras: An Elomi Fitting Guide for a Fuller Figure

Plus size bras need a wider band and a deeper cup on the same bra, and Elomi designs for nothing else. Elomi's range starts at a D cup and runs to a K, on backs from 32 to 46.

Elomi is part of the same group as Fantasie and Freya, and it shares their sizing. If you already know your Fantasie size, start from the same one.

Elomi sizes and conversions

Start from your usual UK size, or measure with our guide to how to measure bra size. Elomi labels show European and French sizes too.

So a UK 40G is a European 90I. Elomi recommend a fitting every six months, because weight change, breastfeeding and the menopause all change your shape.

Elomi's three fit checks

Elomi's own fit guide comes down to three things. Check them in the mirror after you have leant forward and scooped each breast into its cup.

• The band sits firmly around your ribcage, level at front and back. If it rides up your back, it is too big.
• The centre front lies flat against your breastbone. If it sits on breast tissue, the cup is too small.
• The cups give an even, rounded shape, with the wire behind the breast and no bulge under the arm. Spilling over, even a little, means trying the next cup up.

On a fuller bust the band does the heavy lifting, which is why Elomi put the figure at 80% of the support. If your shoulders ache by teatime, look at the band before the straps.

Morgan, Lucie and Downtime

Morgan is the one we keep in the most sizes. It is underwired, with three-part cups and a side panel that brings the bust forward. We have it in white, blue leopard and the black Hot House print, from a 32 to a 44 back and up to a K cup, plus a banded version in white.

Lucie is a plunge without any push-up padding. The centre front sits low for a V neck, and the top of the cup is stretch lace so it follows your shape. Ours run from FF to J.

Downtime is a non-wired bralette, and it is dual sized: each size covers two cups, such as F/FF or J/JJ. The band and the lining give the support instead of a wire. It is the one to try if wires have never agreed with you.

Elomi briefs are sized M to 4XL. M is a UK 12, L a 14, XL a 16, 2XL an 18, 3XL a 20 and 4XL a 22.

What is the difference between Elomi Morgan and Lucie?
